Plant-based milk is better for the planet and better for you. And it’s popularity isn’t going anywhere. Virtually everywhere you go, you’ll find a plant-based milk option.
Whether it be to control the ingredients or save on plastic waste, it’s super easy to make your own!

Here are 3 Easy Plant-Based Milk Recipes
1. Oat milk
Probably one of the quickest, cheapest and most popular plant milks to make at home. You only need 3 ingredients!
What you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (gluten-free if necessary)
- 3 cups cold, filtered water
- 1 pitted date (or 1 tbsp maple syrup)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/8 tsp salt (optional)
The method:
- Start by rinsing your oats. This helps to prevent your oat milk from getting slimy.
- Add your oats, water, date (or syrup), vanilla and salt into a blender.
- Blend for only 30-45 seconds. You donโt want to over-blend your mixture.
- Time to strain your oat milk. You can do this using a nut milk bag, but I prefer to do it in a French press. Itโs easier and WAY less messy.
- Keep the liquid (oat milk) in a sealed container or jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Natural separation will occur, just give your bottle a shake before use!

2. Cashew milk
I love cashew milk. It’s nice and smooth without being overly nutty tasting!
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup cashews
- 4 cups of water
- 1 pitted date or 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla (optional)
- 1 pinch of salt (optional)
The method:
- Place cashews in a bowl and cover with water. Let soak for at least 4 hours or overnight
- Drain and rinse the cashews and add them to a blender along with the 4 cups of water, sweetener of choice and any optional add-ins
- Blend on high for 1 – 2 minutes until smooth and no cashew chunks remain
- You shouldn’t have to strain this mixture but if needed you can use a nut milk bag to separate any remaining cashew chunks from the milk mixture
- Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for 2 weeks
3. Almond milk
Did you know that in a carton of store-bought almond milk, you’re only actually getting a small handful of almonds? It’s because it’s so watered down. Here’s how to make it creamier!
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup of almonds
- 4 cups of water (or 3 if you want it to be creamier for a coffee cream!)
- 1 pitted date or 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla (optional)
- 1 pinch of salt (optional)
The method:
- Place almonds in a bowl and cover with water. Let soak for at least 8 hours or overnight
- Drain and rinse the cashews and add them to a blender along with the 4 cups of water, sweetener of choice and any optional add-ins
- Blend on high for 1 minute
- Use a french press or nut milk bag to strain the milk from the almond meal
- Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for 2 weeks
