I live with a handful of chronic illnesses. I remember when it was brought to my attention that the products I use and consume every day were playing a huge part in the way I was feeling. I honestly didn’t really believe it at first.
I mean it does sound a little ridiculous that the foundation I was using was actually harming me. But the more I thought about it and the more research I did (I love doing my own research) the more I realized how much sense it makes.
It only takes a few seconds for the products we apply topically to soak into our bloodstream. If those products are full of junk that junk is now in our blood and making us feel…crappy.

1. Switch out your makeup and skincare products
Like I mentioned above it takes only a mere few seconds for products applied topically to be absorbed into our blood. Which means that any old drugstore product just won’t cut it anymore.
Yes, there are still natural, toxin-free brands at the drugstore but most that you’re used to using (Covergirl, Maybelline, Revlon, etc.) are not chemical-free.

This may take a bit of research on your part because even though a brand may be labeled “natural” or “organic” doesn’t actually mean that at all! There are no regulations that prevent a brand from using these words even if it’s not true. So be careful!

2. Purge your home of toxins
This will arguably make the biggest difference in your life. But our homes are FILLED with chemicals and toxins from artificial fragrances to cleaners.
These products can have terrible effects on us from altering our moods to giving us headaches to even causing things like infertility and cancer.
I don’t say these things to scare you but to make you more aware. There are real dangers lurking in our homes and I speak from experience when I say that when I eliminated these items my health got significantly better.
If you’ve been feeling off or more tired than usual something in your home could be to blame. This year, do a complete audit and purge your home from these nasty toxins.

3. Purify the air in your home
Getting rid of the toxic things in your home with surely help with this but you can also purify the air in other ways.
Plants are a great, natural way to purify the air. They draw the toxins into themselves leaving the air clean. Plants are also a wonderful way to bring the outdoors inside which does wonders for your mood and overall well-being. Especially in the wintertime.
Essential oils are another great way to purify the air in your home. Pop a few into a diffuser and they work the same way as plants by drawing the toxins in and out of the air.

4. Ditch the plastic
Other than the major environmental impacts that plastic has on the world, it also can have a significant impact on your health. Especially when you use plastic in the microwave.
Different forms of plastic contain different kinds and amounts of chemicals. When we drink or eat from these plastics we’re also ingesting the chemicals they were made with.
Microwaving food in these plastics is especially harmful as the heat expands the plastic and releases these chemicals into our food.
It may be time to think twice about the containers we purchase our food in and what we’re eating/drinking from.
5. Change your mindset
Think non-toxic thoughts and they lift you into the air! (Catch my Peter Pan reference??) But in all seriousness, your mindset can some times make the biggest difference when it comes to your health or limiting beliefs.
While you’re busy purging your home and cleaning up your products don’t forget to clean up what’s inside either.
I know this may seem like a drastic shift from literal toxins to your inner toxins but it’s just as important if you want to live a fruitful, healthy life.
Changing your mindset and your way of thinking is arguably the best thing you could do for yourself.
This includes the thoughts you have about yourself, others and the situations life throws your way.
Negative thoughts = Toxic thoughts.
These thoughts have the power to hold us captive and can have a physical toll on our bodies.
Physical toxins can find their way into our bodies from products applied topically, ingested or breathed in but the toxins brewing in our hearts can spread all over our bodies and into the world around us.
Put this into practice by paying attention to your thoughts. Stop yourself when you have a negative one about your self or others. Re-think that thought. Retrain yourself to be more kind, to change your habitual way of thinking.
I promise you’ll live a more abundant life.
