Yoga has become a part of my daily routine over the past few years. As someone who is chronically ill, gentle movement is about all I can manage and yoga has been a game-changer to keep my body moving without exhausting it.
I’m also someone who cares deeply about our planet. (Duh.) And as such, I’m overtly aware of the impact my purchases have. Like what they’re made of and what their environmental footprint is.
Yoga mats aren’t known to be that eco-friendly. While yoga mats may be soft and bendy, you might be surprised to learn that they’re made of plastic. And not just any plastic but PVC or vinyl. These plastics have been found in a lot of our everyday household items and contain harmful chemicals. All this to say, they won’t break down in a landfill and can actually impact our health as well.
