Most jewelry isn’t made sustainably. Since most materials come from the earth like metals, gold, silver, and diamonds, most of it is sourced unethically using forced labour and practices that are harmful to our planet.
Like everything that comes from the earth, these are finite resources. Mining depletes these resources and once they’re gone, we can’t get them back. There is no “growing” diamonds from the earth the way they were created. And much like every other consumer-driven product, it’s produced fast. Think fast fashion.
When things are in such high demand, they aren’t made in an ethical or sustainable way. So here are my favourite jewelry brands that are completely conflict-free and you can feel good about wearing them!

1. Made by Mary
Each item from Made by Mary is handmade by jewelry artisans and all makers and those who help source materials are paid and treated fairly. Their pieces come in an array of tones including rose gold and a number of customizable pieces.

2. CatBird
CatBird’s goal is to make beautiful jewelry with the lowest environmental footprint possible. They do this by using almost entirely recycled gold and diamonds and by making everything right in their studio in Brooklynn. How cool!

3. Cuyana
Cuyana produces their jewelry pieces responsibly and makes them to last you a long time. Pieces that last longer = fewer resources used. All of their suppliers uphold a high commitment to sustainable and ethical practices.

4. ABLE
ABLE is no stranger to ethical practices having been in the fair fashion game for a while. And it’s no different for their jewelry. They uphold the strongest ethical and sustainable standards when producing their gorgeous accessory line!

5. Brilliant Earth
Brilliant Earth is known for its beautiful, ethical wedding and engagement rings. My beautiful engagement ring is from here as well! Their diamonds are incredibly sustainably sourced and conflict-free. They also use recycled materials and lab-grown diamonds in certain pieces.
