When it comes to eco-friendly makeup there are a lot of options. Package or plastic-free, compostable/recyclable packaging, or my favourite, refillable.
I shudder to think about how many plastic bottles and containers I’ve gone throw purchasing and repurchasing the same product over and over again. But what if there was a way to keep the packaging for life and just refill the contents? There is! (obviously, you know that you clicked on this post.) Refillable makeup brands are great for reducing waste and your overall footprint. If taken care of, you could buy the packaging once and use it forever!

Refillable Makeup Brands:
Compostable packaging is amazing. I hope it’s the way of the future for just about everything! But, because a lot of people don’t have home compost or commercial compost systems, a lot of the time these products end up in landfills where *gasp* they won’t break down! That’s right. It’s a huge misconception that simply tossing a biodegradable or compostable product into the trash will allow it to break down.

That’s where I believe refillable makeup brands can make a difference. because using what you have over and over and over again is better than composting/recycling or just plain throwing away.
These brands are all not only clean and non-toxic but they offer an array of refillable products to help you reduce waste and build an eco-friendly makeup bag!

Elate is a staple and a popular brand amongst zero-wasters and for good reason/ it’s a trailblazer in clean cosmetics and sustainable packaging. While not all of their products are refillable like their mascara and liquid foundations, a large number are!
Their refillable product line includes cream blushes, concealers, brow pomade, powder foundations and blushes, and eyeshadows! All you have to do is purchase the initial product in a bamboo compact once and then when the product is used up, order a refill that comes in a seed paper envelope (that can be planted!) and just pop the refill into the compact! It’s as easy as that!

You can choose from single compacts to refill time and time again like eyeshadows, blushes, and pressed foundations or larger compacts that you can mix and match all your essentials in!
