I feel like summer is a season everyone loves. The days are longer, it’s warmer, vacation days, etc. There’s so much to love and an expectation of relaxing.
But with all the extra time in the days, there can be an added pressure to fill up our time and before you know it, summers over and it’s back to our regular scheduled programming.
Here are 5 ways you can practice slow living and make the most of the season.
5 ways to slow down this summer
1. Plant something
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of planting a seed, nurturing it and watching it grow. Whether it’s a full garden or a pot of flowers, you can plant something in any space! And it’s always worth it.

2. Go on a picnic
Picnics are a common summer activity. Growing up picnics were always a pit stop. This year I’m going on picnics just for the sake of going on a picnic. No schedule or place to be other than eating on a blanket under a shady tree.
3. Go on a bike ride or a walk
Getting out into nature and fully being present in the season is super healing. Go on more bike rides and walks this summer with no destination. Just go to go. I promise it’ll be enjoyable.
4. Support local coffee shops
Something I never get tired of is getting an iced coffee from a local coffee shop. I’ve been taking myself on more solo dates recently that include not only a trip to the coffee shop but sitting outside on the patio by myself with a good book.

5. Eat seasonally
Probably my favourite way to slow down and be present in the seasons is to eat seasonally. With grocery stores, we’re used to having access to all the foods all the time but not all the food that’s available is in season. Intentionally eating fruits and veggies that are in season helps us to really appreciate the season for what it is.
