Exercising has become such a huge and important thing in my life. It’s one of the many ways I perform self-care.
Growing up I used Walmart’s workout clothes or whatever was cheapest. But I always dreamed about owning a pair of lululemons.
Since switching to ethical fashion, I didn’t feel comfortable wearing or supporting either brand.
Lucky for me, and all you other work out lovers, there are many ethical and sustainable active wear brands out there for all different budgets!

Sustainable Active Wear Brands:
1. Girlfriend Collective – $$
Girlfriend may be one of the most famous and popular sustainable active wear brands. And for good reason. They are truly trailblazers in the ethical and sustainable fashion scene.
They carry everything you could need for a workout including leggings, sports bras, bike shorts, and crop tops.
Every pair of leggings is made with 25 post-consumer plastic water bottles. That’s right, they’re made of plastic! But you’d never even know by how soft they are.
They also make sizes up to 6XL! Talk about inclusive!
2. Azura Bay – $-$$
I talk about Azura Bay a lot because I’m obsessed with their company! It also helps that they’re based only an hour away from me and if there’s one thing I love more than supporting sustainable brands it’s supporting local sustainable brands.
Azura Bay is a curated shop that houses many well-known sustainable brands. While there’s no short supply for underwear and loungewear, they also have an impressive collection of active wear!
With brands like Groceries Apparel, Sokoloff, and organic basics you have your pick of the cutest leggings and active sports bras!
3. Beckons – $$
Beckons creates yoga and workout wear made from organic cotton and other sustainable fibers. This ensures the impact on our planet is very minimal and the clothes you’re wearing are soft and durable.

4. Reprise Activewear – $$
Reprise’s mission is to “free your body from plastic”. Which is why their clothing is made from plant-based materials.
While their inventory may be small, don’t underestimate this brands mightiness. You can build a complete workout outfit with their leggings, sports bras, t-shirts, and shorts!
They also have organic scrunchies and hair ties so you’re definitely set from head to toe.
5. Wolven threads – $$
Wolven threads creates the most gorgeous activewear using recycled plastic and modal. (A fabric made from Beachwood pulp that’s twice as soft as cotton!)

This brand can literally not be any more beautiful or wonderful!
With sports bras, leggings, swimwear, tops, and flowly active pants all made without the exploitation of humans, animals or the planet, you can feel really good supporting and sporting their apparel.
Their pieces are made from fabrics like linen and eucalyptus and dyed using natural dyes derived from plants. making them extremely soft and have a low impact on the environment.
All of these brands put people and the planet first. So next time you need to invest in some new activewear, skip the lulu’s and snag something from one of these brands that don’t come with the price of the planet!
Now, I want to add that if Walmart is all you can afford, that is ok. I’ve been there. But I would encourage you to save up and invest in some sustainably made pieces. In the meantime, thrifting is an amazing alternative! Just save this post and come back to it when you’re ready!
