For as long as I can remember, I always got brand new shoes for every season. For summer that meant a new pair of sandals, flats and some sneakers for longer walks. And I would mostly get new ones every year because the ones I had the previous year had fallen apart.
So as much as I focus on sustainable clothing made to last, it’s time I put that same investment into my footwear.

Sustainable shoes for spring and summer:
1. Vivaia
Vivaia is all around a very cool brand. They make their shoes from recycled plastic bottles in an effort to reduce waste. But it doesn’t stop there, their shoes are comfy, durable handmade to last. My top picks are the Aria 5 flats and the Jade square-toed sandals.
2. Cariuma
Cariuma makes its shoes from all-natural materials including natural rubber, bamboo, organic cotton and even sugarcane! They don’t use any harmful chemicals or dyes and are committed to reforestation initiative! My top pick is the IBI slip-ons.
3. Allbirds
Allbirds sustainability is super innovative. They use natural and plant-based leathers in their shoes, offer carbon offsets, and have a “rerun” market where you can shop slightly defective and gently used Allbirds shoes to reduce waste. My top picks are the Sugar Sliders and the Tree Breezer’s flats.
4. Rothy’sΒ
Rothy’s makes products with a purpose. They’re made from natural, renewable or recycled materials.Β They use plastic bottles and marine plastics n the making of their shoes and aim to create a circular economy by making products to last and offering a recycling program. My top pick is the Square Mary Jane.
5. Nisolo
Nisolo is a certified B corp as well as Climate Neutral certified. Both of these are impressive certifications. They aim to reshape the fashion industry by creating shoes to withstand the years and the trends so you don’t have to buy as much and over-consume! Which is far different from brands that encourage nothing but buying. My top picks are the Huarache Sandal and Go To Flatform Sandal.
