Knowing how to reduce waste or what products can help you on your zero waste journey can be difficult. I’ve had products that I wish had a sustainable solution or areas of my life I wish reducing waste was easier.
Here are some of the best zero waste alternatives that completely changed my life and I know will change yours.

Psst! This product is the NUMBER ONE thing that has helped me reduce waste!
Zero Waste Alternatives:
Seriously, a biodegradable phone case is mind-blowing and life-changing at the same time. While I don’t advocate for over-consuming, it is nice to switch out your phone cases every once in a while and not worry about them going straight to the landfill. You can save 20% with code: PELACAITY
2. Tushy Bidet
Y’all. Once you go bidet, you don’t go back. I mean it. It has made me a very privileged person in the fact that I get sad when I used a bathroom without one. Literally, nothing compared to how clean it makes you feel and you will save so much toilet paper.
3. Stasher Bags
Disposable plastic bags who? Investing in reusable silicone bags from Stasher is just that: an investment. Not only will it save you money, but it’s truly an investment in the planet. Once you use up all your disposable bags, you need these!
I feel like this is a swap that isn’t talked about very much in the zero waste space. Rechargeable batteries are nothing new and honestly an amazing invention. I had my reusable batteries for 7 years before they stopped working which is INCREDIBLE. I would much rather only have to dispose of batteries every 7 years than every 2 months. Plus, my original charger still works, it was only the batteries that needed replacing!
5. Shampoo and Conditioner Bars
Shampoo and conditioner bars were one of my first ever zero waste alternatives and I haven’t looked back. While I’ve tried other sustainable options that I love, nothing is the same as my bars. Liquid shampoo and conditioner are quite frankly, mostly water. This is why we feel we need to use so much in order to get clean. Bars are completely concentrated with NO water so you can use less and they last so. much. longer!
Listen, any reusable grocery bag is a good zero waste alternative. But these foldable bags from Baggu are just top tier and my absolute favourite. Not only are they incredible cute with different patterns, color and even collaborations such as with the Simpsons and the Peanuts, but they fold down so small and can fit in virtually any purse! Making it super easy for me to remember my reusable bags every single time.
This composter takes composting to the next level by turning your food scraps and biodegradable items into literal dirt! This is such an amazing solution for those who don’t have access to community composting initiatives or don’t have a garden/yard to compost in. It’s just so amazing and made by the same company that makes Pela phone cases! SO when your Pela phone care starts to break you can throw it in and turn it into dirt!
Loose leaf tea is a great zero waste alternative because it’s one less thing to throw out every time you make a cup of tea. But I hate metal tea steepers. No matter what tea I get there are always little leaves left in my t and I hate it. These reusable tea bags are the perfect solution! They don’t get any leaves in my tea ever. And they’re so easy to wash and reuse!
This is another great reusable item that I don’t think gets talked about enough. Aerosol cans are terrible for the environment and so hard to dispose of properly. This reusable sprayer works just like a regular oil sprayer making itperfectfor cooking. Just refill with your favourite cooking oil (preferably form a tin orglass bottle) when needed!
Traditional lighters full of lighter fluid are incredibly hard to dispose of. Just throwing them into the trash can cause a lot of harm for our water systems and wildlife. A rechargeable lighter uses electricity to create a current that works perfectly to light candles and help start fires. Just charge it up and keep using over and over again!
