There are so many reasons to love Thinx. No more crinkly pad noises, no more running out of period products, being super comfortable, saving money over time, and my favourite reason: zero waste.
If you know me or are familiar with the blog then you know that I hold environmental values very close to my heart. So the planet was the main driving factor for me to finally make the switch to Thinx.
In the united states alone, it’s estimated that 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons are discarded every single year. BILLION. That’s crazy. These aren’t natural products that will break down, they’ll stay in our landfills for decades.
Thinx reusable period underwear are completely reusable and will reduce your entire period waste year in and year out.
Traditional period products are also super unhealthy for you. They’re often made of plastic and covered in chemicals like bleach. Putting those next to or in our most sensitive or intimate parts is incredibly dangerous. Thinx solved both of these problems for me which is why I decided to try them out in the first place.
Thinx period underwear review:
Full disclosure: I am a partner with Thinx. BUT, I wasn’t when I first tried them out and fell in love with them. So while I may earn a small commission if you use my link, (full disclosure, here) know that I wouldn’t be making this post or be a Thinx partner if I didn’t genuinely love the product and its mission. So with that being said, here is my honest and real review.
I’ve been using Thinx period underwear exclusively for almost an entire year. And it’s safe to say, I’m not going back. I’ve never been a fan of tampons so a menstrual cup wasn’t the next natural step for me in wanting to reduce my period waste. I tried out reusable pads and while I would still use them, I found that they moved and shifted throughout the day which led to more leaks. Thinx were the absolute perfect solution for me!
I was completely skeptical at first, as I’m sure you might be if you’re looking up reviews. But I have been pleasantly surprised. I think a lot of it was that I overthought it. But it’s really as simple as wearing a pair of underwear because that’s what it is!
It’s not an understatement when I say that Thinx has changed my life. I haven’t bought period products in over a YEAR! I have 8 pairs in total ranging from about $30-$40 (CAD) dollars a pair and based on my calculations, that’s about as much money as I would have spent on period products in about a year/year and a half. So They’ve almost completely paid for themselves at this point meaning I’m about to start seriously saving on my period.
Not only have they saved me money but they’ve saved countless amounts of waste and are generally healthier for my body too. Which is what I’m all about.
They also came in handy during 2020 when people were panic buying toilet paper and period products. It was sad to see the isles of pads and tampons almost completely cleared out. I’m lucky that I had my Thinx and didn’t have to worry about it. They’re great for any sort of emergency.

Frequently asked questions:
1. What are Thinx?
Thinx are absorbent, reusable period underwear. Pads are tampons are single use items that get used once and end up in our landfills for hundreds of years. By using a product like Thinx, you can use them time and time again, keeping needless waste out of the landfill.
2. How do Thinx work?
They work the same way that pads work. They simply absorb your period but instead of a crinkly pad, it’s an incredibly comfortable pair of underwear!
3. How do you wash Thinx?
You wash Thinx the same way you wash your other clothes! Simply throw them in the washer with the rest of your load and wash as normal. The only difference is in order to give them the longest life possible, they’ll need to be hung to dry. Easy peasy.
4. Do they feel wet?
Not really. When they start to feel wet that’s a good indication that it’s time to change them. Otherwise, it doesn’t feel like you’re sitting in a puddle of your own blood because they’re so absorbent
5. Is it gross?
Honestly, no. But as I mentioned I’ve been a pad girl my whole life so maybe I’m just used to it. But it doesn’t feel any different than wearing a normal pair of underwear.
6. My period is really heavy, will these still work?
Girl, you and me both. The first two days of my period are extremely heavy. When I was still wearing pads I’d often have to change them every 2-3 hours. With Thinx’s most absorbent pair, I can get away with a few hours of use. So on my heaviest days, I’m changing them more often but you can always tell when it’s time to change them so you don’t have to worry about leaks.
7. Are they prone to leaks?
Not unless you go wayyyy too long without changing them. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how absorbent they truly are. Just make sure to get the correct size. I got a size too big my first purchase and if it’s not snug it can definitely leave more room for accidents to happen.
8. Do I need to wear them in addition to other period products?
I’ve seen some reviews that say you shouldn’t “free bleed” in these or wear them alone on your period. I wholeheartedly disagree. In fact, it never crossed my mind that I should be double-ing up on period products. Thinx is designed to be worn alone. And like I said early, my period is extremely heavy the first few days. But as long as you’re changing them as often as necessary, there shouldn’t be any problems.
9. Aren’t Thinx expensive?
I’ll level with you. A package of pads is probably cheaper than a pair of Thinx. It’s an investment for sure. But you’ll actually be saving a lot of money in the long run since a pair of Thinx if taken care of properly, can last upwards of 10 years!

I honestly love my Thinx. I love the brand as a whole as well. I think they’re doing wonderful things not only for the planet but also making that time of the month more comfortable while working to normalize the stigma around periods.
