When I first cut out dairy I was disappointed that every hot cocoa mix on the grocery store shelves contained dairy. Looking back it seems obvious but before then I never had to pay attention to ingredients.
As non-dairy and vegan options become more and more popular, vegan hot cocoa mixes are popping up in stores which is super exciting! Until you realize they’re all double if not triple the price of regular hot cocoa mix.
And this doesn’t make any sense considering they’re using fewer ingredients and without the cost of you know, the entire dairy industry. So trust me when I tell you, it’s SO much cheaper to make your own. And it’s so easy!

Vegan Hot Cocoa Mix
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup coconut or cane sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- Handful mini vegan marshmallows (optional)
To make:
- Combine ingredients in a jar, mix and store!
Yup, it truly is that simple.
Serving size:
2-3 tbsp per 1 cup of plant milk or hot water.
This stuff is amazing but it definitely has a strong cocoa taste! You can adjust the strength based on your serving size and with the plant milk!
So easy, yummy, cruelty-free and cheap!
