Reducing waste can seem intimidating. I don’t know about you guys, I grew up using plastic bags, Ziploc bags and so on. We had a lot of disposable items and didn’t bat an eye at throwing something out after a single use. So it was quite a journey to get to being the environmental activist that I am today.
I’ve tried a lot o zero waste products and made a lot of zero waste swaps. Some were really worth it, some were not. Here are 10 that have really helped me to reduce my overall waste!

Any time someone asks for a reusable grocery bag option, I always recommend Baggu. It was one of the first sustainable brands that I fell in love with over 5 years ago and the love is still real. Apart from their ethics and fun patterns, the best part about Baggu reusable bags is that they fold down and slide into a tiny little pouch for compact storage. This makes it really easy to store in my purse so I always have one on me just in case. I can’t say enough good things about them!
2. Stasher bags
Stasher bags are another really great zero waste product. Made of food grade siicone, you can kiss single-use Ziploc bags to the curb with these guys. They’re dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe and just one of the best options for reusable food storage. I’m obsessed!
3. Coffee Sock reusable tea bag
Most teabags contain microplastics. Which is not only bad for your health because they’re released when in hot liquid. But this also makes teabags unable to break down in a landfill. I’ve tried those metal tea balls for loose leaf tea but they always leave little bits of tea leaves in my tea which I don’t like. Coffee Sock’s reusable tea bags are made out of fabric and work perfectly to steep tea and leave no trace. Then simply wash and reuse!
Safety razors are already one of the best zero waste products on the market. But if you’re used to disposable razors, there’s a bit of a learning curve that can be quite intimidating. Leaf Shave has made it simply by creating a zero-waste safety razor – meaning NO plastic – and modelling after a flex head disposable razor. So you don’t need to re-learn how to shave and you can save so much waste! BEcause this razor will last you a lifetime!
It’s an amazing feeling to replace something you would normally use once and throw away, with something you can wash and use again and again. That’s where reusable paper towels come into play! And they’re such a life and waste saver! Whether you’re cleaning a surface or wiping up a spill, reach for a reusable paper towel that you can wash and use again!
Say goodbye to heavy, plastic jugs of detergent (that are mostly just water and chemicals anyway!) and say hello to light, water-free laundry strips! The science behind this is so cool. Each strip is basically super concentrated laundry detergent that dissolves in each load! This was my first trek into sustainable laundry and I don’t think I’ll ever switch it up.
Whether you’re removing makeup or applying skincare, you need a set of reusable cotton rounds! Mine are quite used as you see (maybe next time I’ll go for black instead lol). But they’re endlessly washable and reusable meaning you’ll never reach for a cotton round at the end of the day to remove your makeup and find you’ve run out!
While any reusable water bottle is a good swap, if you’re looking for a new one, you have to try Hydro Flask! I have the 32oz which means I only have to drink 2 bottles full to get my recommended water. It’s also great for a full day out or travelling.
And sticking with my love for Hydro Flask, their to-go coffee mug is amazing as well. It keeps your drink hot for SO long! Me and this guy are best friends on Monday mornings. And every morning after that.
I love sustainability. Because most of the time, you buy something once and it will last you for years and years! Like these silicone baking mats that replace parchment paper! Use them for baking or cooking and then throw them on the top rack of your dishwasher for easy cleanup!
